CONSULTATION STARTS HERE - THE REPORT, THE RESULTS

CHAPTER 9 - THE SPORTS CENTRE

9.1

Unsurprisingly, the clear majority of respondents favoured the renewal of the Sports Centre, with 81% of respondents supporting such an option, and an equal percentage supporting sports and recreation in this area generally. The results are summarized in Figure 19.

Figure 19 : Sports Centre, all categories, all respondents

9.2

There is naturally a high level of support for events at the Sports Centre, but a low level of support for either arts/cultural buildings or outdoor arts. There is an apparent equality of support for community buildings and a commercial leisure centre, at 42% each. However, when satisfaction ratings are analysed, the net support for a commercial/leisure centre is lower.

Satisfaction Ratings

9.3

The satisfaction ratings for different options can be seen in Figure 20 below.

Figure 20 : Sports Centre: satisfaction ratings

9.4

There is an overwhelmingly positive satisfaction rating for renewal of the Sports Centre and for sports and recreation there generally. There is a strong positive rating for the holding of events at the Centre, and a smaller positive rating for community buildings there. A commercial/leisure centre receives a small positive rating. All other options receive negative ratings.

Regional Variations

9.5

Once again, regional variations have been analysed (see Table 3, Table 15, Table 16), as shown in Figure 21.

Figure 21: Sports Centre, comparison of inner zone, outer zone and all responses

9.6

The analysis of the data again shows that there is practically no distinction between the views of those living in the inner and outer zones.
