CONSULTATION STARTS HERE - THE REPORT, THE RESULTS

CONSULTATION STARTS HERE

We need you to answer the questionnaire opposite. For four years, Bromley's refusal to negotiate has fostered a crude take-it-or-leave-it debate: a multiplex or a derelict space. In reality there is a vast spectrum of possibilities. In this questionnaire, we ask you to look at this spectrum and start the consultation process. After analysing your answers, we will draw up a series of broad "concept drawings" for further consultation, and so on until we have consensus. Then, in partnership with the London Mayor, the five boroughs and local groups, we will work to make the dream happen.

Map of the Park

A park of four parts

This is a single park but it has four distinct areas, and we want your views on each one.

1. THE PARADE TOP SITE, where the Crystal Palace stood, with its woodland ecology and views.

2. THE MUSEUM AREA, an important historic and educational facility, which is rundown.

3. THE MAIN PARK, with its listed terraces, lakes, playgrounds, dinosaurs, maze, etc, in need of TLC.

4. THE NATIONAL SPORTS CENTRE, with its important facilities, now crumbling.

Regeneration possibilites

On the facing page in the table under "types of regeneration" is listed a spectrum of possibilities. These are not exhaustive, but are an indication of what might be done:

Ecology might include: natural wildlife landscape, cleaning up the land, ecology park and nature trails.

Managed parkland might include: flowerbeds, trees, paths, garden for children, garden of the senses (for the unsighted), water gardens, a glass plant house, more seating.

Community buildings might include: new enlarged museum, cafe, restaurant, art gallery, performance space, re-siting Upper Norwood Library, a learning centre, lecture theatre, a refurbished 1 o'clock club.

Arts/cultural buildings might include: concert hall, major art gallery or museum, conference/ exhibition centre, aquarium.

Park history might include: marking out the perimeter and exploring the archeology and foundations of the original Crystal Palace, reviving the beautiful brick Parade subway, restoring terraces and statuary.

Outdoor arts might include: sculpture, beacons, fountains, monument to the original Crystal Palace.

Sports and recreation might include: improving existing football, cricket and tennis facilities, community-designed playground or farm, maze, horse riding, bike paths and BMX bike area, skateboard/roller-blade area.

Events might include: more open air concerts, new music festivals, fireworks, arts festivals for local and other artists, food festivals, markets, garden festivals.

Renew Sports Centre might include: modernising the existing sports and recreational facilities, including dining and accommodation etc, but no expansion on to parkland.

Commercial/leisure centre might include: hotel, small cinema, a bowling alley.
