Appendix A : Cumulative Data Analysis

This form of analysis demonstrates if the pattern of responses indicates an internally consistent profile so that further responses would not alter the profile. Figure 22, below, shows the results when the method is applied to the responses from the Park survey to the "Top Site, Managed Parkland" question and Figure 23 shows responses from the whole sample to the same question. The responses were taken in the order received and it can be seen that the initial fluctuations quickly dampen as more data is added. Further, the results are tending to a constant value showing that we had a statistically adequate sample.

A further test can be made by plotting differential samples instead of the cumulative counts shown above. In Figure 24 below, the complete set of responses was randomly ordered and then plotted in batches of 104. No peculiarities were observed and the behaviour expected of relatively small samples, hovering about the mean, are shown clearly. This "steady" behaviour is indicative of the sufficiency of the sample used for the main analysis.
